I graduated with my Bachelors of Music from Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC. I am currently finishing his Masters of Arts in Teaching degree from Lenoir-Rhyne as well. I typically start out young students with the Essential Elements books, although I also like the Rubank books. If the students are enrolled in a band program, I try to go with the book used in school, while adding in supplemental material as I see necessary. I try to introduce numerous etude books including Ferling, Klose, and Rascher as a progression out of the method books previously mentioned. My teaching style is relaxed. I grew up taking lessons that stressed me out and that's the last thing I want any of my students to feel. Music takes practice and sometimes practice is tough, but above all, music should always be fun. My teaching style in encouraging, but not strict.
