Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Hi! Im Kristen. Im a mezzo soprano. I love performing and teaching others the art of performing. I am passionate about helping singers improve their voices and learn how to love them. I love to prepare them for whatever goals they may have, whether that be singing in a choir, being on Broadway, singing at Church, preparing for college auditions, or just singing in your living room. I have been in love with music since I was a very young child. I was studying and performing singing and piano by the time I was five. I toured as a second soprano with the North Carolina Boys Choir for almost four years starting at age nine. I began teaching myself guitar at age fourteen. For all students, there will be a focus on the fundamentals at the start. For intermediate to advanced players this is a period to both evaluate strengths/weaknesses and to establish expectations for the teacher-student partnership. For beginners this is the necessary first step on their journey as musicians. My teaching practices include "say it, sing it, move it, play it" - in simple terms. This technique of hearing and feeling the music before we play or sing will help students learn to better visualize or audiate the music before performance. I often have my students sight-read to stretch their rhythm reading skills, and I give rhythm exercises for practice and warm-ups. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at their own pace. I try to make sure that fundamentals are always maintained and that the music we are covering in lessons is stimulating and challenging while still being enjoyable for the student so that they can develop musical expression along with a strong technical foundation. Because I don't have a set template that all students follow, I believe that my constant assessment and evaluation of students needs is effective in making sure that each student's passion is nurtured and developed.
