It’s always great to see improvement in a student nothing is more rewarding than that. I strive to have a relaxed teaching environment and persona for the student which makes the work more productive on both levels so that the student feels comfortable in the learning environment. I also would recommend an amount of practice that is recommended for any student that is willing to put in the work for what ever they are trying to achieve be it professional or amateur playing level. My teaching experience started when I was in high school. Being a son of two teachers I was compelled to become a tutor. I was my first student. Teaching myself how to play the piano and gutiar. My father taught me methods of how to learn and thats what I use to teach. I gained more experience helping people write essays and do home work. Over the summer I worked with children in summer camps..working with children with autism . in college I became a tutor for the English department. Read More

I typically start out young students with the Essential Elements books, although I also like the Rubank books. If the students are enrolled in a band program, I try to go with the book used in school, while adding in supplemental material as I see necessary. I try to introduce numerous etude books including Ferling, Klose, and Rascher as a progression out of the method books previously mentioned. I try to discuss the interests of my students often to assess what will be an appropriate next step in their musical selection for them to make sure its challenging without causing an overreach and breakdown of their fundamentals Read More

As far as my teaching style is concerned, I strongly believe in teaching one "how to fish," as opposed to just letting them eat for a day. I purposely introduce material and techniques that are outside of the student's playing ability early on, so as to push them exponentially past whatever they originally "thought" they could do. To some, this pedagogical approach may seem a little extreme, but in my 10+ years of teaching, I've found that every student that has decided to stick with this style has found themselves playing some of the very styles and techniques that they never thought possible before. I always encourage my students to practice consistently, and have fun making music because making music should be enjoyable, not stress. Read More

I believe that learning should be fun. I love music, and my most crucial goal is passing that love and passion onto students that I work with. I work with a variety of different methods, depending on the needs and interests of the student, and am always happy to be flexible, with the end goal of having a great time making music. I want to instill a love for music making in all of my students, and am happy to take whatever approach is necessary to make that happen. Read More

For beginning students, I start with the Essential Elements book. If the student has already taken lessons or is in their school band/orchestra, I encourage moving onto the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced method books depending on ability. Once a student has proven that they are able to handle it, I will start on solo repertoire. Particularly for college-bound musicians who wish to major in music, the majority of their lessons will be based on preparing solo literature for All District or college auditions. Read More
