I have been teaching since I was in high school, and have enjoyed each lesson. I emphasize a strong fundamental base and building upon each students individual interests to help them develop their musical curiosity. I like to model lessons after an ideal practice session, starting with a fundamental warmup and development, moving into scale work, and then addressing the repertoire being studied. I let my students set their own goals from a list of basic/intermediate goals I come up with that may be good for them to improve on or learn for future sucess. I let them set their own pace and never let them get discourage or be hard on themselves. Music is fun! My teaching expereince dates back to before I graduated undergraduate school. Since I had a semester to wait for Commencement, I was afforded an opportunity to work as a Teacher assistant, in an Open Classroom Learning Environment. This immediately preceded a very rewarding Student Teaching experience in the rural southern state of North Carolina. I have taught kids from ages 9 to fourteen, and am open to teaching anyone of any skill level. I also offer lessons in composition and recording/engineering music production. I encourage regular practice and make sure, especially for kids, that they leave every lesson with something new. I focus on learning how to be a successful musician all around, emphasizing on good technique, performance, and each student's individual sound. As a teacher, I am always wanting to see my students enjoy what is happening in the music. I have wide spectrum of students that I have taught. Some have wanted to play an instrument casually and others wanted to go into the performance route. I am flexible when it comes to my teaching. I began teaching in 2001 and have taught private lessons on and off since then. I am now starting a new studio and am looking for students who want to learn the joy of piano.
