As a musical educator, I firmly believe in simultaneously ecouraging my students as a push them far past whatever limits they may have had at the beginning. While doing this, I've also realized that each student eventually reaches an "ah ha" moment in their time of learning with me. This happens when the student begins to come into his/her own "musical identity." As crazy as it may sound, I never teach my student how to play, look like or to sound like "me" as I'm teaching them. I have even been able to tour abroad in Venezuela, Brazil and Austria. I have been fortunate to work with many wonderful musicians and conductors along the way, and would love to pass my knowledge on to you! During my teenage years, I was privileged to study piano with former Russian concert pianist Sergei Arzoumanov, who led me through the rigors of European Classical training. Although I chose to major in clarinet performance in college, I continued to study piano with doctoral students at the Conservatory, and love to teach it! Read More

I teach harmony, rhythm, technique, melody, and basic sight reading by a two fold approach. First is to really feel into the music. This means learning to listen deeply with curiosity, intention, respect, and joy bringing the meaning of play into every aspect of learning. The second part is to begin with the basics of music theory by grounding fully into the fundamentals. Learning to work in forms that may seem like an alien language at first but when systematically approached with patience, dedication, and a spirit of playfulness and fun will open up and begin to reveal paths into learning and understanding that will greatly increase ones ability to engage in all musical forms. I enjoy teaching students of all ages. My teaching method and strategy is Applied Teaching, with a standard system of scales, etudes, and pieces from the cello literature. I am not a Suzuki instructor, but am always happy to refer a student to a Suzuki teacher. However, it is certainly possible to teach any student in either Suzuki or Applied Teaching, or both. Both are proven and effective teaching systems and techniques and are ideally highly complimentary. Read More
