I incorporate a well-rounded approach with my students by teaching musical skills beyond their particular instruments such as aural skills and theory. I use my background and training in Kodaly and Orff to teach music like a language by directing my students through experience and practice of the concept for better understanding. I use positive reinforcement and keep things fun for all ages. In each lesson, I work on aural skills and theory through fun warm-up games that get gradually more challenging as time continues. I love music! I hope to spread my love of music to you. I have been playing the piano for more than 45 years and enjoy watching students grow with their interest and passion for the piano. I compose and produce music as well, so I can bring perhaps a deeper perspective to studying music and the theory that is behind it. I have a Latin Grammy nomination, a Native American Music Award (NAMA), as well as experience producing and composing commercial music for large companies in many genres. Read More

I am a versatile music teacher. As an undergraduate at Ithaca College, I learned each band and orchestra instrument from the college instructor. For example, I learned to play the oboe from the oboe professor. We had to make our own reeds and use them to play our final exam. Through this rigorous training, I learned to play all major scales and high school level music on the flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, French Horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, violin, viola, cello, double bass, and percussion. I try to keep the student as interested as possible, some have shorter attention spans then others and for them maybe i will do 30 minutes instead of 45 minutes. others who are really into it and do not want to leave i may teach them for an hour and that often turns into 2 or 3 hours of just jamming and having fun at no extra cost because without students a maestro is nothing but a musician playing music. i love to play along with students so they are more prepared when they go out and make music with others musicians and they can stay in time with a drummer more easily. I believe that motivating and inspiring music students requires a different approach. I love to teach because its very rewarding to see when a student gets it after many trials and errors. Every practice session should have a goal, and practice goals are more important than setting a time. I believe that everyone has the capability to play something easy and fun if he/she is willing to put some time into the practice. Read More

I have a great rapport with the students because we both generally want to be there. I have learned a lot about myself over the years about the various ways people learn. One cannot approach every student with the same program. Some are more visual and love to read music, some have a great ear and can play back something they only have heard once. I try to be aware of strengths, and work on the things that need more focus. Read More
