I believe in creating composition, composition through improvisation classical and jazz training as well as rock pop and instrumental. I feel very confident in the fact that I can teach that 3 year old or a full-bodied adult and how to become a virtuoso as I did with one of my students in a matter of six months. I feel it is based upon personal motivation and I strongly encourage that in each and every precious student. Read More

I was viola section leader during three of my four years at Gaither High School, inspired to pursue music by my orchestra teacher Heather Grier (world-renowned violinist and friend of Andrea Bocceli). After graduating, I attended Hillsborough Community College as a music major, and I landed my first teaching job at Excel Music as a substitute teacher. I was asked to stay as a full time teacher, and thus I began my career in music education. 2009 - 2014: Excel Music, Strings Teacher 2014 - 2015: Hillsborough County Public Schools, Substitute Music Teacher 2015: Westshore Elementary School, Music Teacher 2015-2016: Sam Ash Clearwater, Private Lessons Teacher 2018-2025: Westchase Music School, Music Teacher, Music Theory Lab Manager, Assistant Director 2026-present: Music & Arts Brandon, Music Teacher Read More

First lesson I start by assessing what level the student is at and what goals they have with their music and develop a lesson plan from there. I focus first on fundamentals of sound and technique to build a foundation for the student then work on scales and repertoire to get them playing music. From there it is a focus on musicality and performance. A lesson plan for example may be working on solo repertoire by breaking down the piece by focusing on different elements that make the song; the scale, they rhythm, certain patterns by measure, techniques required, etc. Read More

My teaching style really focuses around developing a love for your instrument. If the student loves their instrument and the music that is written for their instrument, they will feel encouraged to practice. I try to pick up on the student's personality and learning styles and make each person's lesson a combination of my teaching styles and what works best for the student. Once we find the routine and groove that works for the both the student and myself, then the learning should come along easily and fun. Read More

I typically use a combination of Suzuki and Essential Elements for beginner students. I worked extensively with the widow of the author of Essential Elements, and I understand how to implement the strategies for optimal success. For intermediate students, I typically use a combination of Suzuki, scale books, and etude books. to ensure success. My main goal is to continue to build a good foundation for more advanced musical endeavors. Read More

Instruments: Piano

I am teaching different styles of music: classical, pop, rock, jazz and encouraging my students not only play well, but also develop their passion for music and art in general. I am singing with my students for 3-5 minutes each lesson which help them to hear music in a better way. My little players really love it. After each recital all my students go to the stage and sing and I reward them with different types of chocolate. Read More

Instruments: Piano

Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
Yes, one young man in Mechanicsburg won special honors because of his successful piano career in high school. Unfortunately, He contracted AIDS and died as he entered college.

What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
For me the most difficult was the fingering of difficult passages. That's why I stress this with my students. it was not always interesting but rather boring so it took an exceptional amount of discipline.

What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
My solo senior recital in college for which I preparedI featured Brahms and Schubert both Romantic composers. the Schubert was particular to my soul, as it depicted a base roll which reminded me os someone with an addiction like my Dad. But the piece also had a melodic escape from the horror of being addicted which also depicted my Dad.

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
Availability mostly. We didn't have a harp, but we had the piano. But I always loved the piano music. It was an easy sell. I have always loved piano and it percussiveness but thought it would be smarter to major in organ. However the organ prof wasn't sympathetic to the young woman's goal to be professional and I thought it wiser to major in piano and minor in voice

When will I start to see results?
If you can identify a song's melody, or hear the child humming a piece they are working on, you can begin to claim them as results. If they don't express themselves, maybe in about 6 to 12 months.

Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
I had 2 teachers who inspired me to go into music, both piano teachers: Mrs, Stebbins always gave me more modern, familiar tunes to work on even if only on the melody to play for her and she was always enthusiastic when I played the tune by ear.Dr. Centrone in my advanced stages always allowed me to accompany his girl's chorus which was an honor and I played the solo spotlight in his recitals.

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Review our lesson no less than 4 times a week and not just before you come for your next lesson. good musicians learn little by little over a period of time with good hard work.

How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
If your child asks questions about their parents history, or "noodle" on the keyboard, show an interest in an older student of adult, you might want to begin the process. Interview a teacher, read up on some contemporary artists who have made it and your child likes.
