Member of Minneapolis Music Teacher Forum

Taught musical theater as an accompanist, producer and piano/vocal teacher

currently accompany the Elementary school Selected choir

Overview:
I'm a loving-music, passionate, and creative teacher, who wants to nurture the same in my students, help them to evolve and develop the musical taste for a more fulfilled life.  In 1993, I graduated from South-Ukrainian National Pedagogical University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Pedagogy. I worked as an accompanist, producer, and piano/vocal teacher in schools, Children Creative centers, Musical Theater.  Currently, enjoying playing piano at Von Maur upscale department store, my students take part (and receiving awards) in Minnesota Music Teacher Forum recitals.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part-time many years ago while learning piano at University and working in children's creative center. I began to teach students in my home studio. Working in Musical theater, I gained more experience teaching piano and voice, accompaniment to ballet classes and theatrical plays. My students participate in awards and honor recitals throughout the year. I have taught piano and voice lessons for over 25 years.
METHODS USED
I choose the books according to my assessment of the student during the introductory lesson. The Faber Method is one of the more popular ones. I also use the Alfred All-in-One books series. As supplemental material, I use Keynote Speller by Shaum and Line a Day by Keith Snell.  For solo repertoire, I select methods based on the skills and favorite pieces of each student. Recently, there have been published and won the love of millions of teachers and students around the world, 2-books "Tales of Musical Journey" by Irina Gorin, for beginners. I'd recommend these books to all beginners, and adults too - for creating a healthy foundation of future piano player.
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel students' desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs... I encourage my students to include music in their everyday schedule. They also receive assignments to compose musical questions and answers, transpose melodies, as well as listen to recordings. I use duets and play by myself to inspire their imagination. I also recommend attending local music performances to help develop student's ears and form their music tastes.

My kid has been taking lessons from Irene for the past 5 years, so this sums up our wonderful experience :), passionate, always patient and encouraging. We love her teaching methods by getting the kid involved by various activities and enjoy music too.

I was formerly classically trained and played for many years. After almost 30yrs of not playing, I decided to go back to my passion. As an adult learner, I need to have a teacher that can push my limits and introduce new things in a captivating way. Irene has been an amazing instructor and friend for me. I have learned to play new styles of music including jazz and “alternative” classical. Before the pandemic, I loved playing advanced level duets with her. She has helped me refresh music theory and has been consistent with changing some bad piano playing habits of mine. I would recommend her over and over again!
