At the very beginning level I would start with fundamentals from whatever book I feel would be best for the student depending on their age and knowledge. Beforehand I definitely will need to asses their knowledge so I can do so accordingly. I however will now focus on solely fundamentals and will try to include in songs that the student would like to learn as long as it is in the bounds of reality, the lessons I provide are only part of the equation and the real work is what is put in after the lesson. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part-time many years ago while learning piano at University and working in children's creative center. I began to teach students in my home studio. Working in Musical theater, I gained more experience teaching piano and voice, accompaniment to ballet classes and theatrical plays. My students participate in awards and honor recitals throughout the year. I have taught piano and voice lessons for over 25 years. Read More

Voice: First 40-60% of each lesson: Voice Building and Technique (Working on the student's range, placement, support, alignment, and vowel clarity). Theory and sightreading is introduced on day-one, and emphasized in every lesson going forward. Last 40% of each lesson: Repertoire (With every student, I ask that YOU pick one song that you want to sing, in any genre of your choice, and I will in turn supply you with a piece that both suits you, but will challenge you as well. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I truly believe in giving my students the freedom to select the songs and/or genres they like and that's because I believe passion is an integral aspect of learning. Read More

My name is Brad A.. I am a graduate of Florida Southern in Lakeland Florida, where I learned to play and teach voice, guitar, and all the instruments in the violin family. I am primarily a guitar player, but I still have a passion for the violin, viola, cello, and double bass. I play and teach the repertoire in the Suzuki Method on the violin. I am also an accomplished "fiddle" player. Read More

My approach to teaching is very dependent on the student. From matching energy levels to providing different teaching techniques based on the student's learning style, from the 75+ students of varying learning types and ages I have taught over the years, I have learned how to adapt to each student's needs and execute varying teaching techniques effectively. My only requirement in my studio is that my students practice and come to their lessons prepared. Read More

I introduce double stop positioning, bar positions, forms for 12 bar and 1-4-5- chord patterns in different styles of music (this can range from Beethoven to Jimi Hendrix). I then move to introducing songs than have the same core chords, but in different sequences, so students can see broader applications. I also have an favorite tool of mine that especially helps with theory -- a wheel that has the circle of 5ths carved into it, with patterns and relations between the keys carved into an inner wheel on it as well.
