Edward is a lead tenor who has performed roles ranging from The Mayor, in "Bye, Bye, Birdie" to Adonis, in John Blow's baroque opera, "Venus & Adonis". My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time , and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio and music schools for the last 15 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

We all learn best through patters - not only in the material itself, but also how it is presented. Because I want students to be comfortable in a routine, I greatly value structure in my lessons, which incorporate theory, technique, and repertoire in a way that caters to the student’s interests as much as possible. A favorite line for me is Alfred’s Piano Library, as it provides a colorful, natural approach, even for complex musical concepts. Read More

I play piano for dance classes and dance majors who study both modern dance and ballet. I am a composer, songwriter, piano player, recording artist, and producer. I have released over ten albums since the year 2000. Two of the releases are with the Monroe Institute which makes Hemi-Sync music to balance brain wave patterns and assist with learning, focus, creativity, and ADD. I have released electronic music under my own name, and pop music under the name Bloom. Read More

I want everyone to feel that they can learn music and that music can be fun to learn and grow in. So I strive to learn how a student learns and do my best to cater my teaching style and the materials I use to help them learn tothe way they learn. For example, if you are a repetitive learner than I will try to solidify the techniques by teaching those techniques over and over again until they areabsorbed. Read More

My husband is in the Air Force so I have had the opportunity to teach students all over the country for over 15 years. I like using the Faber books so that the students learn their notes, theory, and all aspects of music. Students stay motivated because I meet as a group to play for each other and have small recitals. They of course have the option to participate in these activities. Read More

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
My friends in high school got me into a lot of rock and heavy metal bands. One of them got me into Metallica and when I started listening to the "Ride the Lightning" album, I knew I wanted to play drums. I loved the speed and the energy. When I was growing up, there also weren't many female drummers around so it made me feel unique. But when it came down to it, I loved the energy and speed. Later, after discovering Rush, I continued to enjoy drumming on a more sophisticated level and enjoyed the technicality that drumming could offer in genres likes jazz and progressive rock and metal.
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
I am proud of attaining both of my music degrees as well as having performed in choir and band all throughout school.
What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
I would say that soloing and improvisation are the hardest aspects to master, because they not only require the capability of mastering one's instrument but also the right level of talent, dedication, and creativity. Two musicians can be at the same level of advancement, but their solos and improvisations will still be different. For example, Mike Portnoy is VERY influenced by Neil Peart and you can hear it in his grooves, but his solos sound very different from Neil's.
Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
As I've mentioned before, I use a combination of method books, songbooks, and my own teaching materials. For piano students, I use Alfred and Hal Leonard books along with classical songbooks. For drum students, I use the famous "Syncopation" book that you will see in most music stores, along with method books from various publishing companies and songbooks, especially as my students advance and can play more songs.
What does a normal practice session look like for you?
It depends on what level the lessons are that the student is taking. If the student is a beginner, we will be covering basics and possibly playing some games or doing some exercises to cover the concepts and give the student some practice. If the student is more advanced, during the first part of the lesson I will review old concepts that the student might need more practice on or teach new concepts while the second half is normally dedicated to learning songs. Sometimes, I might switch the order of this to spice things up a bit or if the song being covered is more of a review that might be good for a warm-up for the student.
