I love music! I hope to spread my love of music to you. I have been playing the piano for more than 45 years and enjoy watching students grow with their interest and passion for the piano. I compose and produce music as well, so I can bring perhaps a deeper perspective to studying music and the theory that is behind it. The beginning students always start in a book, which is usually John Thompson's "Teaching Little Fingers to Play", or for the older students, "Bastien's Book for Older Beginners."  As they move along, the students often have an idea of what they want to play, and often bring me music, especially the adolescents.  I can determine more upon working with the student over time. I try to keep the student as interested as possible,some have shorter attention spans then others and for them maybe i will do 30 minutes instead of 45 minutes. others who are really into it and do not want to leave i may teach them for an hour and that often turns into 2 or 3 hours of just jamming and having fun at no extra cost because without students a maestro is nothing but a musician playing music. i love to play along with students so they are more prepared when they go out and make music with others musicians and they can stay in time with a drummer more easily. For voice students, I take everyone through the process of warming up by using the three parts of vocal production: Breathing, Phonation, Resonance (or Tone). I prefer to teach my students the way I was taught, by learning to read and write music. There are students who prefer to learn by ear, but written instruction is always best for countless reasons. I use a combination of my own introductory lessons (which I customize depending on the age and maturity of the student) with published books and materials. For piano, I like to use the Alfred books and classical sheet music but I am always open to using other instructional books and songs that the student may want to learn. Read More

My teaching is very goal-oriented. Some adults may want the satisfaction of simply playing Blues, or Fur Elise, or "Don't Stop Believin'" for their own enjoyment, and we work through the music easily as their practice time allows. Parents have the opportunity to see their children shine in recitals twice a year. During their lessons, the younger student and I work hard on note-reading, rhythm, and expression.
