When a good teacher finds a good student, they inspire each other. If you want to learn how to sing in the shower a little better, that's fine, and I might help you do that; but if you feel impelled to use your voice to issue forth song in a more profound way, you have to begin with a deep-down feeling, and one that you can project from your body (and soul) up through your throat and out of your mouth. I began teaching singing lessons as a youth mentor more than a decade ago. I helped these young people develop their voices and performance skills, and supported them to perform songs in front of their school communities and families. I started teaching Balkan singing and percussion workshops with my band a decade ago. Around the same time, I was involved in a program that developed trainings and curricula for group and individual musical facilitation for individuals in hospice, inter-generational community ensembles in nursing care communities, and people with memory loss. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time , and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio and music schools for the last 15 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

I help students to find their forte. I discovered what motivates them through years of teaching in my studio, students' homes, music schools and instrument shops. Highlights of my teaching career include teaching at The L.A. Conservatory of Music and Eubanks Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, and presidency of the Music Teachers Association of California, San Fernando East Valley. While I played at the piano, several congregations have sung God’s praises. Read More

Music lessons can incorporate a variety of approaches depending on student preference and abilities. Some students love to read notation. I encourage these students to develop auditory skills through imitation games and improvisation. Other students play by ear and prefer to memorize all pieces. I encourage these students to learn to read notation and to look at the notes when playing familiar pieces. For young children, I create short musical tunes they can read using colors. Read More

My studio exists to help the everyday singer or the gifted vocalist with aspirations of a music career. Many people wish to sing better but never do anything about it. People often try to imitate established singers, hoping to produce the 'sound' that these others have accomplished. In my studio, each studentwill know the excitement of discovering his or her uniquely beautiful sound. Learning to sing better should always be an uplifting, activity, thoughmy 'kids', regardless ofage. In order tosing with ease and freedom, a singer must feel free to explore. My lessons encourage personal freedom so that learning can take place. I like using the Faber books for children and supplement with classical pieces from Snell. For adults, I see where they are and use adult beginning books or other appropriate material depending on their interests. I usually start each student learning their major chords through the keys as soon as they are physically able, because once you learn your chords, sight reading and other playing becomes much easier. i also teach scales because if you can play your scales you can learn to play in all different keys.
