I started songwriting in my senior year but it wasnt until attending college that I took it seriously and pursued a career in original music. I grew up always listening to old-school RB and hip-hop, due to my family background and experiencing life as a young black American, so this style of music has a big influence in my life. However, as I started teaching music 3 years ago I developed a love and a passion for helping students reach their potential in any area and genre of music, from classical to jazz, to coaching with original music and exploring the writing process. I began singing at the age of 7, winning a talent competition in Miami, FL. With the knickname, "Song Bird", Iperformed as school choir soloist and as leads in various Rodgers and Hammerstein productions at summer camp.I spent nearly every Christmas in New York City whereI gained a love of the Broadway musical. During the summers,I performed with a folk trio in Washington, D.C. venues and learned how to connect with an intimate audience. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time , and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio and music schools for the last 15 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

My approach to teaching is rooted in the belief that every student has the potential to learn and grow, and it is my job as a teacher to help them reach their full potential. I strive to create a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and exploring new ideas. I believe in using a variety of teaching strategies, such as hands-on activities, group work, and individual instruction, to engage students in meaningful learning experiences. Read More

I have a great rapport with the students because we both generally want to be there. I have learned a lot about myself over the years about the various ways people learn. One cannot approach every student with the same program. Some are more visual and love to read music, some have a great ear and can play back something they only have heard once. I try to be aware of strengths, and work on the things that need more focus. Read More

A relationship with music is a very personal thing. To some it is all about the competition while to others it is simply the joy of playing for one's self. It is my job as a teacher to help each student discover what it is they want to get out of their experience with music and then help to nurture that experience. To treat music like a sport and assume that all students have the same expectations is a mistake that is made all too often with our schools and is, regrettably, all too often the main reason why so many kids choose not to continue with music.
