When I start with beginner students I don't go to their books right away. I like to sit with my students and have them learn about the parts of the instrument as well as getting to know their instrument. I typically use the Alfred series of Piano Method materials to teach my piano students. Along with those materials, I add solo pieces for my students to learn as they progress. With my younger students especially, I enjoy introducing fun pieces for holidays throughout the year. I teach to my individual students abilities and interests to keep it engaging, enjoyable and fun too!
