I have a four-fold method system for teaching the flute based on tone, scales, etudes, and solo and orchestral repertoire. From the start I see the importance at learning and accomplishing the goal of learning a solo piece. Whether that is an absolutely beginning learning simple tunes, to collegiate level exam pieces. I take influence from many famous flute pedagogues including Moyse, Trevor Wye, Altes, and many others. For my beginning young students, I generally start them on a book called "The Potential Contender" by Rebecca Simonfalvi. It is a wonderful book that will have the student playing a major scale in as little as a week! From there, I tend to gravitate towards the Rubank series, as they are often what's most used in schools for auditions, and covers several levels of playing. I vary my methods according to student level, age, and practice habits. For example, for the advanced high school student I often mold my teachings around college audition requirements and all-state, regional band auditions. Otherwise, particularly for younger styudents, I am not very performance oriented. I think it is more important to learn to "play" at music rather than plan and prepare for multiple recitals. I graduated from Temple University initially in 2011, but was drawn back several years later to complete my Master's Degree, which ended in 2015. I have performed all across the state of Pennsylvania, in Connecticut, New York, Delaware, and as far away as Italy. I am a flutist, improviser, and composer with a bachelors degree in Jazz Flute Performance from the New England Conservatory of music. As a past member of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and a Bruce Montgomery Foundation Springboard Grant winner, I am experienced in classical competitions at the middle/high school level.
