With more advanced students that already have found the love for their instrument, I focus on strengthening their weak points, be it technique, sound or interpretation. I like for a student to look at a piece of music and then to explain to me what they think it is. Their perception is different than my perception and I can learn a lot about how to teach them based on how much they may already understand or do not understand. Understanding musical concepts and musical language is important and I emphasize getting basic concepts right immediately. It has been truly rewarding to see students' growth when they smile after finishing learning a song! Recently I did a practice flute challenge for my students, they were rewarded with a gift card if they completed the number of minutes they needed for 4 weeks. Having a goal in mind for them, pushed them to practice different things with a focused mindset. I am a classically trained flutist with a preference for French Romanticism, Modern/Contemporary pieces, and Baroque works. I graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in French and Music, focusing on flute performance. I am currently enrolled in the Master of Music in Music Education program at William Paterson University and am projected to receive my degree in May. Additionally I play the alto saxophone, on which I am mostly self taught. Read More
