For younger beginning students, I typically start with either the Suzuki Guitar Method or Alfred's Kid's Guitar Course 1. For older children, I typically start with either the Suzuki Guitar Method or Guitar for Kids: Hal Leonard Guitar Method. Students are able to progress through the Suzuki Guitar Method through multiple volumes, or move through the Hal Leonard Guitar Method - Book 1 and continue through subsequent method books. I've been teaching since before I leaving school and have worked consistently with students of all ages over the past 5 years.  I studied jazz and classical guitar in college, and have continued my studies with world class private teachers since I left. For beginning students I like to go over the fundamental of the instrument as well as the very basics of reading music and music theory. This way we can build a solid foundation on which to build upon as we progress. At the same time I like to find out any particular areas of interest the student has in order to tailor the before mentioned for their style. I am a strong believer in listening before you play. When it comes to younger students this can be challenging, yet also rewarding. Younger students require a lot of demonstration as far as how to hold and position your fingers. It is a lot of muscle memory, and most new students need proper technique to get them to enjoy their instrument. I find this takes patients.
