Practicing every day or every other day and having a track when playing each week can really develop your playing. Practicing for 10-50 minutes is ideal, rather than, only practicing for 3 hours one day a week. For beginners, especially younger players, I believe it is best to start with simple pieces to build security. For this I usually try to pick fairly well known melodies that the student likely has in their head already, such as 'Ode to Joy' or 'Jingle-Bells'. By starting with tunes the student already knows, I believe that the learning process becomes much more intuitive. For teens/adults I encourage the student to find out what the students interests/goals are and adjust my lesson accordingly. Read More
