What I like most about lessons is working with the student towards the common goal of making them a better musician. That is done by reaching many smaller goals over the course of weeks and months and possibly years together. With that in mind, I like my lessons to be an open conversation between the two of us. The way I have tried to sell this to students is: the accepted technique became so because it is the easiest and most comfortable way to play.
