Overview:
I've been playing professionally for over 18 years and have had the pleasure of being able to tour the country playing music. I've also had the opportunity to travel to Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Curacao, Canada, Mexico and Cuba to perform. I've lived and been able to immerse myself in two fantastic music cities, New Orleans and Memphis, both of which have had a profound influence on my playing. I like playing many different styles of music and have been in bands that played rock, jazz, funk, blues, soul, reggae, pop, country, and americana.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching for over ten years to students of all ages. I first started at a local music store in Weymouth, MA when I was going to college. Since then I have taught at schools, other music stores, and privately. I love seeing my students develop and discover the same joy and excitement that music brings to me.
METHODS USED
I tailor my teaching method on a student to student basis. For beginners, I find what bands and music they are interested in and then pick some songs that will be easy for them to get started on quickly. I also try to incorporate basic music reading and notation, especially with younger students. For more advanced students, I assess where they are at and make sure that all fundamentals and techniques are strong, and then come up with a plan to help them progress. With all my students I try to make sure that they are having fun and that lessons are something they look forward to.
LESSON STYLE
Some students want to learn a few songs by their favorite bands so they can play music with their friends and family. Others are looking to make music a career. My job to help each student reach their own personal goals while having a good time doing so. I teach lessons in a relaxed atmosphere and feel that positive encouragement works much better than criticism.
