Over the past 2-3 years, I've had the pleasure of working with many students and helping them find a unique voice. Music should be enjoyed, and I try to cater to the students needs, whether they need to work on something or if they're curious about certain concepts. I do encourage students to ask as many questions as possible, as not only does it keep them constantly learning, but it also allows me to guide them in the best possible manner to achieve their own musical goals and pursuits. I am a big proponent of a hands-on learning approach that relies heavily on musical interaction and performance preparation. The best way to improve as a musician is to play, so I try to pinpoint what the student is interested in playing and focus our attention toward that, all while developing foundational music skills such as rhythm, sight reading, theory, ear training, and harmony. I like to start my students on a series of warm-ups and technical exercises that I've found to be essential in developing good technique for students of all abilities and experience levels, and eventually work up to playing repertoire that will strengthen their fundamentals and fulfil their musical interests. I am fairly new to professional teaching. I've been giving very occasional, informal lessons to friends for at least 5 years now. However, I am passionate about moving forward as a teacher, and sharing my twin loves of music and learning with students at any level of ability. In my past informal lessons, I have taught left- and right-hand guitar technique; fretboard logic; scales and scale patterns; chord-voicings (and how to develop your own); harmony; melody; modal theory; and repertoire, including such songs as the jazz standard "All Of Me", and Red Hot Chili Peppers "Can't Stop". When a new student comes in for their first lesson, I always make sure that they have a grasp of the fundamentals. Without the fundamentals it is very easy to develop poor technique that will at best limit them in what can be accomplished on the instrument, and at worst lead to pain or injury from playing. Once we are comfortable with the fundamentals I want to start making music with them as soon as possible. Read More

Hi! My name is Ashley and I am passionate about teaching music! Growing up, I was big into Musical Theatre, but I also had an older brother who really got me into rock music. I made my professional theatre debut in the 7th grade, and my career took off from there! I pursued a degree in Musical Theatre, and went on to "pound the pavement" in New York City, as they say, working in various facets and degrees of the musical theatre industry. Read More
