For beginning students, I typically start with basic elements of Music: scales, melody, harmony and rhythm, with the interactions of musical instrument, e.g Guitar. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first performance. I will try that repertoire is good for the students, according to their likes and trending. I try to find out what the student is interested and what motivate them. Read More

I am an actively gigging, recording, touring, and instructing guitarist and bassist. I have been playing guitar and bass for the past 14 years. In that time I have formed my own band, done extensive touring, shared the stage with major label artists, written and recorded several albums, filmed and edited many music videos, studied music in college, filled in for other professional musicians, worked in a music store, and taught many people how to play an instrument. My main goal as a music educator is to help students discover their own spark, or passion, for music and give them a space to let that spark grow and flourish. I like to give small assignments each lesson based on their interests and goals we set together, which I believe helps motivate the student to improve and encourages them to make new musical discoveries each week. I'm dedicated to providing a creative learning environment for students that encourages experimentation, growing from mistakes, and discovering great joy through music. Read More

I'm a dedicated musician, playing guitar and piano 20+ years. I began lessons on piano at 6 and guitar at 12, also studying saxophone a few years. I grew up in a musical family and learned some piano early on from my father who played jazz. I took formal lessons through high school and studied classical guitar at Keene State College. I moved to the Boston area after that, playing in original pop/rock bands while continuing at UMass Boston, majoring in Music Composition and Education. Read More

My lessons are very structured, but within the structure is a lot of freedom. An hour long lesson might look something like this: First 10 min.: Warm-ups, discussion about posture, hand position and muscular/skeletal health while playing. Next 10 min.: Performance of previous weeks assignments, with discussion about whether preparation was adequate, what was missed (usually dynamics and other articulations) and what could be done to improve. Next 10 min.: Based half on performance and half on my own ideas, work on a number of techniques to strengthen the weaknesses the student is facing. Read More

I try to tailor my lessons almost like a Doctor sees a patient. Every student is different, I do think it is important to learn to read music. I love music theory and I emphasize learning to love practicing technique. With my beginner piano students I generally use a Hal Leonard series book, but supplement it with a book of piano exercises. With my guitar students it depends on their age and experience, I use a Hal Leonard method book for youngsters and then begin teaching them songs they identify that they really want to learn. My greatest quality as a teacher is being flexible and listening to my students' needs. Not everyone learns the same way and to try to teach everyone the same way, you won't always get the results you want. That's why during my first lesson with each student, I try to figure out what the student wants to learn and how they learn best so we can come up with a plan that would work best for them, knowing that there's always room to amend that plan. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
