"Live" practice would be an ideal way to describe how I teach. I never encourage too much of one practice or rote memorization. The mind consolidates information more quickly and makes many more neural connections through variety and "new stimuli." For beginner piano students, we will start with becoming familiar with notes names and where the notes are located. We will then move on to three and five finger patterns for right and left hand. I have created my own materials for practice on note names. The next area that I will introduce is rhythm. I have created my own materials for practice on that area as well.
