I teach scale positions and chords, improvising, and use various methods of piano repertoire, the students learning style dictates the structure of instruction. My students learn to play folk tunes "by ear" and transpose them to each of the 12 keys, including the minor keys. In addition, my students compose their music in order to learn to read music. We learn "fun music" as well as pop, and classical. During my time at the university, I had the opportunity to broaden my perspective on the trombone by studying with several of the trombone faculty. I have loved music from a very early age and I have been fortunate to study a variety of instruments and musical styles. I grew up studying the drums, piano, guitar, voice, and songwriting. I have been in a cover bands, original bands, jazz bands, choirs, a country band, a steel drum band, marching band, opera, a pop orchestra, a hip hop ensemble, and musical theatre productions. In college I took my studies further by learning music theory and aural skills while still performing in ensembles and writing lots of music. Read More
