Overview:

I am passionate instructor who is fueled by seeing success in others. No other feeling is more fulfilling then seeing the growth of another human. I have been teaching private lessons in my own studio for about 8 years now. I've taught 7 marching bands and currently writing music for some with an emphasis in percussion. Currently pursuing a degree in Music Business at Northern Illinois University. I've participated in Drum Corp. tours such as Colts Drum & Bugle Corps ('13) and Phantom Regiment ('14-'16), and also marched 5 seasons of WGI with Cavaliers Indoor Percussion.

EXPERIENCE

Going back to my first drum lesson takes us back 8 years into the year of 2012. I started teaching lessons as a casual event in my basement to local kids in my neighborhood. While this was taking place, I was not asking for any money whatsoever. Eventually, I started to build a community of well rounded musicians that were attaining success in my studio. This led me to start charging money as my studio grew to about 25 students a week at its best. Onside of this, I've taught percussion ensembles to local middle schools such as Mokena and Manhattan Jr. High. Additionally, I've taught 8 marching band ensembles and am currently writing music for some of those. Nowadays, I'm a student at NIU in my last year of study and look forward to rebuilding a studio of young professional musicians here in Dekalb.

METHODS USED

I love treating each student as they are. Every student is their own unique artist and my job is to help shape them and to give them confidence in their vision. I view my job as a tour guide pointing the students in the right directions while not restricting to any particular instrument/genre. Book work, ear training/playing to tunes, improv, technical focus are all aspects of how I teach. I like to learn the students learning style and while trying to cope with their style, I also try to enhance the other styles so my students have a well rounded understanding and approach to music

LESSON STYLE

I teach lessons to any grade/age group. I have an extremely open mind to teaching and music in general, so nothing goes out the door in terms of philosophy, however, I've come to realize that some methods work better than others. That said, I tailor my attention and focus as an educator to the needs of student I'm teaching in front of me. I don't consider the student who just walked out of the lesson or the student who is coming in next. I put my all in the student who is in front of me because I believe time is an essential asset to lessons. Also, every case is so uniquely different in terms of students and I take a good amount of time to calibrate the learning style of every student.

He is very talented and knowledgeable and most importantly fun and inspiring with my kids! They look forward to lessons with him each week. We are very impressed with the results in just a few months. I highly recommend Matt as a drum teacher.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
