I have had five years of music teaching experience and I am interested in the music education substitute position. I have had 11 years of performance experience in musical and opera productions as well as singing lead and playing keyboard in bands and ensembles. I have a passion for music and a desire to help youth, using music as the bridging vessel. No student walks into a school being a blank slate, so it is important to consider their backgrounds, musical and cultural, when finding teaching approaches and building upon the knowledge they have already acquired. I have been teaching for 10+ years via traveling to students homes and via my private drum studio. Most of my students often say that lessons with me are VERY FUN and VERY PRODUCTIVE. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m a working professional or if it’s because I just love to teach, but lessons are fun for me too. I love to teach my students the basic tools of what it takes to be a professional musician, whether or not they are into music as a hobby or as a serious profession. Read More

I believe in a balance between challenging my students and encouraging them. Students are at their very best when they feel affirmed and empowered, but also when the teacher is aware of their full potential and pushes them to achieve that. I believe in a very detailed approach where I am actuely aware of each of the student's particular strengths and areas for improvement and closely monitor their progress in areas of technique, musicality, expression, articulation, facility, and finesse. I would teach my students the basic notes of guitar reading. Once I have fully got my students into guitar reading notes I would then teach them the principals of chord structure and reading chord structure. I would also have them make a plan of what type of song each student would be into and how each and every one of them are going to apply it when playing it. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student develops at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for students in each lesson. Acknowledging progress encourages a student to excel, therefore aiding them to yearn for more. By finding out what inspires the student, I can begin to tailor instruction to better fit their needs. Read More
