Overview:
Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago’s Performing Artists Series from 1990 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Cooper continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States.
EXPERIENCE
Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag Homi Cooper is also the Artistic Director and principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra (ZSO) that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles , and Toronto.
METHODS USED
Suzuki instructional books and supplemented by traditional methodology for reading the various clefs: treble, alto, tenor, and bass. In addition, historical and theoretical subjects are introduced appropriately to keep the student engaged no matter their current abilities. We also have at least two public performances a year at a venue which has a high quality grand piano so the students can get used to the notion that every piano will be different and performing scales before playing their chosen repertoire will help them immensely.
LESSON STYLE
écoutez et répétez. Translation: hear and repeat. There is simply no better methodology in grasping and understanding an instructor’s directions so that a student, no matter what the age, can progress confidently and successfully. In addition, theoretical and historical subject matter is also introduced appropriately to keep him or her engaged continuously. Performances throughout the year, which include solos, duos, trios, and quartets will further inspire the student to progress even further.

Mr. Farobag is patient, bright, kind and disciplined. He is the perfect combo of what you want and expect from an instructor. He teaches my 10 year old boy and 8 year old girl. We are so thrilled to have found him !

Farobag is an excellent singing coach who helped me make strides in my singing abilities. You can also tell he really enjoys what he does and is passionate about music and teaching in general. He has a very deep understanding of musical theory/concepts, as well as the aesthetics of music. Also, his approach isn't overly technical but he makes make it "natural" so to speak. Highly recommended!

My son (eight years old) has been taking piano lessons from Mr. Farobag C for one year now and has made great improvement in his piano playing. With Mr. Farobag C, he is just not learning to play, but also learning to add emotion to his playing, having musicality. Mr. Farobag C. has been extremely patient with my son even during times when I know my son is getting frustrated or losing focus. It is evident that Mr. Farobag C. loves what he does and shares that passion with his students. I highly recommend Mr. Farobag C.! I’m even thinking about adding voice lessons for my son with Mr. Farobag C. if our schedule permits.

Mr. Farobag provides piano lessons for my teenage daughter. She has been working with him for about 10 months. Since she started working with Farobag, her love for playing piano has grown, and her skills have improved exponentially. In addition to his obvious talents, he is professional, patient, and also very flexible with scheduling. He has a genuine interest in seeing his students learn and improve. I would highly recommend him for anyone interested in taking lessons. He also has a strong background in math, and has offered to tutor my 3 children, if needed. We may be calling upon him soon for that!

Both my daughters age 7 and age 10 have been taking lessons with Mr. Farobag C. for almost 2 years. We cannot say enough good things about him. Specifically, my older daughter has had 3 other teachers before Mr. Farobag C., but has progressed leaps and bounds since starting with Mr. Farobag C.. He is knowledgeable, enthusiastic and a perfectionist, and I find that my daughters are always eager to go to lessons, and more importantly to practice throughout the week!

I have had the pleasure of taking vocal lessons from Mr. Farobag for about 2 years now, as well as starting Suzuki piano not too long ago. He is a gifted teacher who truly has a passion for teaching and love for music! Not only has he improved my aural skills, but he has helped me understand music on a much deeper level! My knowledge of technique and overall musicianship has improved drastically while taking lessons with him. Mr. Farobag has challenged me and broadened my musical horizons. He has helped me advance and learn new technique on the piano, as well as expanding my vocal range and performance skills. I would highly recommend him!

Mr. Farobag has taught our boys the piano and violin utilizing the Suzuki method. He is a true gentleman and an amazing teacher. I cannot say enough about him. We have had several instructors and Mr. Farobag far exceeds our expectations. We are very lucky to have found him. Mr. Farobag understands the pace of each child and knows how to motivate the student to exceed his expectations. Hiring Farobag has not only given us a superb instructor but a great teacher as well. He is very intelligent and kind and his lessons can be applied far beyond the keys of the piano. My kids always look forward to seeing Mr. Farobag.
