I began my teaching career as a private lesson teacher in 2000. Then I advanced into the private schools from grades k-12 from 2001-2003. During this time I taught children that had special needs. They became one of my best students. I taught in public schools as well in 2008. I did private lessons for six years in between from 2003-09. Read More

For a lesson, George generally plays along with the student where the student plays a solo part with the teacher adding a second part. He also uses CD recordings with an instrumental part added having the student follow the recording. When teaching a piece, I will often ask the student to sight read notes and break down a composition into sections. Sometimes, I will have the student play just the treble notes, then bass, before adding the parts together. Read More

My experience with learning was fun. Since I was learning multiple instruments it was fun to tie everything together. I could say the best part while learning was understanding theory...that part of my learning opened up many doors for me musically. I started to understand why certain notes could and couldn't be played, why and how to use different scales. Those things are the same things I try to reveal to the students when the time is right. I began teaching when I was in middle school when I got the opportunity to assistant direct theater workshops in my town. I was hooked and for my Girl Scout Gold Award in high school, I ran a theater company for children of social service recipients. In college, I tutored struggling music theory and piano students and felt it was the perfect way to use my enthusiasm for music in a positive way beyond teaching. Read More

I have used different piano books since I started teaching and find the methodology of Faber Piano Adventures suitable for students of different age groups and levels. Students can learn how to play songs in different varieties such as jazz, classical, rock, theme songs from Disney movies and well-known festival songs which they can sing along. Also, most of the repertoire has a duet section for me to play together with the student which makes the learning more fun and enjoyable. Read More

I have taught piano and flute lessons for 30 years. I have played my flute for churches, weddings and community bands. Read More

I am neither strict nor laid back. In order to improve, however, students are required to practice everyday (even if it is for 15 minutes a day). I do not demand perfection from my students, but I do expect students to put in the effort to learn. I truly want to teach students to play music and I want to encourage students to find joy in making music. Read More

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
I choice piano since piano keys interested me with patterns. I would see the keys for keyboard and would combine every pattern I would memorize. Piano has been and will always be my favorite instrument. Every since I was ten years old I started playing fur Elise without reading, would memorize the song through the keyboard lesson and would teach kids about the song. I started growing up and realizing that notes are important with music since that's what makes the whole song up. I started getting in to music theory and from there on I moved on and established myself that I would memorize every note on the keyboard and that I would write my own musical notes on my notebook.
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
One of my musical accomplishments that i am most proud of is having the opportunity to play at an elementary school in front of the school director my principal and teachers. I would play 3 songs of memory and ever since then I have brought a change in my school and in my teacher's lives. I was in the school newspaper and was published in other schools. Another accomplishment is having to play at my brother's college. I would ask his professor if I can play a song on the piano and would deny and let his other students play. I felt left out and when it was over I would get up from my seat and play everyone was amazed they looked right at me and I was just relaxed and calm. The professor called out for security but then said stop. One of my accomplishments that I will never forget.
Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
One of my students have had the privilege to play at a high school concert. I would teach him every day about his favorite song that he would want day would love to play. I said practice practice practice. He would look at me and feel encouraged my my words. He would start doing that everyday and as I saw him practicing I would feel glad about myself that I impacted his life. He would won a special honor nad a gold metal for his achievements I was so proud of him for making a difference in his life and just for never letting him give up on what he wanted to accomplish for his life.
