When studying with me, students can expect a comfortable and fun atmosphere that promotes experimentation and positive reinforcement. Employing a curriculum that is equal parts formal technique and informal playing of the students favorite music, I make every lesson engaging and exciting. After 3 to 6 months, beginners should expect to be able to play many of their favorite songs, have a firm grasp on basic scales, chords, theory and sight reading, and can even begin writing their own songs and improvising solos! I started teaching when I was in high school just to make a little bit of extra money, but I found out that I really enjoyed it. I also taught while in college. Upon graduating SUNY New Paltz I started teaching full time and supplemented this with gigs. By having up to 60 students a week I was able to work with people of various ages, abilities, and interests. I believe every person has innate ability to learn the fundamentals of an instrument, so working through the initial anxiety of learning a new skill is necessary. By letting the student set the pace and offering an array of modalities to tackle students' goals, we will create an environment in which the pure joy of music can shine.
