I am a guitarist, composer and teacher living in Los Angeles. I am currently a Masters student at Musicians Institute and work there as a faculty member. I have given hundreds of live performances, but, I really enjoy working in a studio environment and have played on dozens of recording projects. I also enjoy working on music equipment and finding new sounds - I studied guitar building directly after high school and have built instruments from scratch. Read More

My teaching style is all about enjoying music and the instrument. I can pick up when a student is frustrated, confused or embarrassed and adjust the lesson accordingly. Overall, I want my students to have fun! I enjoy teaching how to read music and once a few notes are learned, I start applying it to songs that my students really enjoy. I also like to teach scales and harmonic structure so my students can begin to understand what's really going on in the music they enjoy. Read More

My methods for teaching involve the topics I learned in my Guitar Technique course. I introduce the CAGED System. Where basic open position chords are moved around the fretboard to cover scale shapes, and arpeggios. This is a great way to map the fretboard, and provide positions to improvise on solos. With this I also blend music theory in which I call the mixture "Fretboard Theory." Theory is what we cover in scales that tell what quality they have, (Major, Minor, ETC). Read More

I really love seeing my students come into their musicianship and artistry! I know that, it is really important that each student flourishes at his or her own pace. I believe setting realistic goals keeps both myself and the students engaged throughout the experience. I want to celebrate the wins we come across as much as possible as I know that inspires a lot of people to continue. I like to tailor everything to the students needs and desires while also giving them a broad knowledge to build from. Read More

My go-to books for Drummers, beginners and advanced are 1. Advanced technique for the modern drummer by Jim Chapin and 2. Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone. No matter what you listen to, the material in these books can be applied to any style. Another tip is to learn what influenced your favorite players. I Guarantee every one of your favorite drummers has studied this book. It contains beginner techniques through the most prominent advanced skills. Read More

I'm very goal oriented with my students and flexible with their development. It is important to progress but also to take account of small achivements as much as large ones. Learning music is fun and the process should be fun through and through. Always emphasizing the positive aspects of a students performance and capabilities ensures a pleasant and fun experience for all involved. Read More
