If they are just starting to play guitar I can show them chords and songs that are not too difficult and help them develop their style from the get go. I use my own lesson plan. I'll start with Hal Leonard for young students, and hanon's virtuoso pianist for more advanced students. I'll use theory lessons mixed with what the student actually enjoys, because it's hard to learn what you're not interested in. I'm flexible and will adapt to the student's needs. I try to find what motivates the student to play, and guide them accordingly. I can teach through the use of books (such as the Suzuki Method, John Thompson, etc) but I am also an advocate for learning by ear, transcribing and chord charts.
