I like to ensure that all of my students have rock-solid foundations, so basics like time, dynamics, and phrasing will be things I constantly return to. But once we have created a strong base to build on, I enjoy letting students work at their own pace that fits their goals. We'll focus on the styles of music that YOU want to play, and won't waste time working on things that aren't important to you. Read More

I believe in getting the student interested in the concepts and styles themselves, i like to introduce them to different ways of playing and my main method is to show them how it can be exciting to play/learn. For eg, for someone who loves games, I would show them how to play chords and melody ( on a piano ) at the same time by using the Minecraft theme song as an example, or any game that they might know and enjoy so it gets them interested to want to play and learn, through that i will show them dfferent techniques and concepts, this way they are already enjoying what they are learning and at no point will not want to practice it on their own. My main focus of teaching is on the student, and on developing and expanding their existing musical interests. I develop a lesson plan and schedule that begins with the musical interests and passions of the student, their favorite bands, favorite songs and musical styles. From there I take each of their favorite pieces of music and demonstrate how the building blocks of music were used to create each, and how they can not only recreate their favorites, but start to create their own musical identity. With students that are full beginners, I like to start them out with some reading to show them how time is divided and how to identify notes on the staff. I've found that finding notes on the staff helps them learn the notes on the fretboard faster and easier. I use a book called Guitar Method Book 1 by Hal Leonard. For students who are more advanced, I will focus on their time feel, sound, and music theory. Read More

I have been teaching music lessons since I was a child when I started teaching my sisters how to sing. I have always enjoyed connecting with people through music and watching them blossom from the inside out. I have been a touring musician since I was 17 years old. I have many live performance, recording, live radio and TV performances and interviews that give me a wealth of knowlege to share with students that are aspiring Rock Star's to be. Read More

Setting realistic goals is definitely a good place to start. Also, I encourage transcribing music in small sections, and to always start slow and take deep breaths, as this will reduce the student's normal anxiety and has done wonders in my own playing as well. Using a rhythm reference like a metronome or a drum loop while practicing is also a must, at it helps develop the student's groove. Internalizing music by developing the student's ear is also a very important part of my teaching style as Is applicable in any genre (hear it before you play it!) Read More

Additionally, some other books that I use with my drum set students are Syncopation by Ted Reed, The Art of Bop by John Riley, The Essence of Afro-Cuban Percussion, and The Essence of Brazillian Percussion by Ed Uribe. For more advanced students, I work on trancriptions of their favorite drummers, chart reading by playing with recordings or live musicians, improvisation over musical forms, and developing indivdual exercises for each student. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
