Since moving to LA, I have played hundred of local shows, toured around the US and to Russia, including playing the main stages at festivals with many thousands in attendance. I have recorded on records that have sold several million copies, including Robbie Williams (and his hit UK single "Candy") as well One Direction on their "Midnight Memories" album. I have worked with producers who's credits include Snow Patrol, U2, REM, Taylor Swift, One Direction, Robbie Williams, Silversun Pickups, The Fray, James Blunt, Neil Diamond, and many many more.Since starting my love for composition at 7, I continues to write and record, not only singing, but playing guitar, bass guitar, piano/keys, drums, mandolin, and harmonica, as well as producing and engineering, and mixing the session himself. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, its important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress and this makes students eager to learn more. After graduating cum laude with a degree in Music, Gabriel made his way to Chicago to work on a Masters in Jazz Studies at DePaul University, studying with Bob Palmieri (a student of John Scofield), trumpeter Dr. Robert Lark, and saxophonist Peter Ballin. While at DePaul he continued to play and record in several jazz combos and big bands, while also finding the time to jam at some of the great blues bars in the city.  Leaving Chicago behind in 2003, Gabriel traveled to Los Angeles to pursue his Doctorate in Musicology at the University of Southern California, where he studied Indian classical music, Jazz History, and 20th century Western art music, receiving a Masters in Musicology along the way and becoming a Doctoral Candidate. If there's a particular method book the student and/or parent want to use, they're the boss. If not or addition to, I simply teach HOW to play the instrument. I show them how to hold it, wrist/elbow positions and muscle memory techniques which are very important early on so bad habits don't develop to where they're playing the instrument versus fighting it. This is something I do with every new student regardless of their level, because they sought out a teacher for a very good reason. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I usually start with technique exercises that will help develop the foundation of their playing. I do not introduce music notation usually until the fifth or sixth lesson. I believe that kids learn faster when they beginning learning by call and response or like many call imitation. By developing first the ability to listen and play by instinct a student can develop a stronger foundation in developing the beat and noticing high and low pitches. Read More
