I started teaching during my last couple of years of my undergraduate years in college. I knew deep in my heart that I was meant to teach as I am not just a teacher but that is who I am. I started with teaching private lessons, but then went onto teaching in the classroom. I wanted to work my way towards my Doctoral Degree because I knew that is what I should be doing. Read More

For beginning students, I start off with using Faber's set of collections and five finger positions. I keep the beginners on a regime of learning five finger position songs to build confidence and the ability to grasp the fundamentals. I teach simple techniques along with their five finger position songs such as scales and arpeggio. Once they have progressed to a certain degree, I begin to introduce more variety and the ability to read further than five finger position. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
I began my teaching career as a college student in 2015 and have continued to teach both in private and group settings for a total of 8 years. My primary instrument is voice, and I am passionate about guiding growing singers in finding their voice, developing healthy vocal technique, learning helpful music theory, and fostering a love of music! I also teach piano up to an intermediate level and enjoy helping players advance their agility, understanding of theory, and musical expression. Read More

As with methods, I do not have one lesson style. My approach with a three year old is different than with a seventy year old. I am detailed in my critiques, but patient, positive, and creative with explanations. My goal is for the students to learn to love and appreciate music and for them to use it not as a short term goal, but as something they can live with and enjoy for the rest of their lives. I sets appropriate goals with recitals, festivals and examinations to both motivate and encourage students, ensuring that they have a positive experience. Read More

I find that metaphors using familiar things and processes, like the laws of nature and physics we see everyday, can help students grasp concepts that require marrying physical movements with mental flexibility. Perhaps we're discussing articulations and you're having trouble understanding stylistically how to approach and execute staccato with legato over it. We could turn to methods like the Breathing Gym to practice a physical manifestation of how that articulation should sound. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I also believe in the importance of listening to as many professional recordings as possible of the instrument the student is taking lessons on. Read More
