Instruments: Piano Violin Music
For beginning students who are children, I have a wide range of method books such as Alfred's Basic Piano, Bastien Piano basic Method and/or John Thompson's piano course. When my student started to understand the basics of the instrument, we begin to create their repertoire with the songs they are interested in and suitable for their level. For my adult students, I try to find out what they are interested in and guide my teaching accordingly to make lessons exciting and fun, regarding their skill level. Read More

I think it is important to have a strong foundation when you're learning to play an instrument. And what is absolutely essential is scales. If you can play scales well, then you're off to a good start! You may very well be able to learn new music faster and play the pieces better! However, I do not believe that scales should dominate the lesson because that is not fun for the student or the teacher. Read More

I use different book series, depending on the age and level of the student. For young students, I start with the little Mozarts book series, lesson books, and workbooks. For older students, I will either use Bastien or Alfreds lesson and workbooks. This is mixed with a classical and folk book. We also work on theory, and making sure we know our intervals. Students also learn about key signatures and recognizing sharps and flats. Read More

The bow arm is integral to a polished and effortless performance. Left hand of course is very important, but I pride myself on the work I do with the bow with both beginning and my advanced students. For intermediate/advanced students, I assess, most likely have them play, check the technique, will 100% make adjustments to the left arm/hand and also the bow arm/hand and also explain why I'm doing what I'm doing. Instruments: Violin Cello Viola Double Bass
I taught the students from beginners to very advanced college students in traditional classic way. I taught big string classes and private lessons in different levels. I was assistant professor in University of Mississippi for ten years and taught applied cello and string Bass lessons. Many of my students went to further professional studies and started their music career. And also, I have many students who went to other majors in college but still keeping very active in the area of music, playing community orchestra, start their own private chamber music group, become very positive part of their community. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I also believe in the importance of listening to as many professional recordings as possible of the instrument the student is taking lessons on. Read More

Creating a non-judgemental atmosphere, where students are free to experiment, make mistakes, and try again, is crucial for learning an instrument such as the violin. With this instrument, repeptition is key to learning. I also strive to set very clear, manageble goals, so students feel a sense of accomplishment at each stage. This sense of accomplishment is motivating to the student as well as the teacher! I often let students have a choice of which solo piece they get to play, as I have witnessed many past students rise to the ocassional to learn a piece they are passionate about! Read More
