My goal as a teacher is to maintain a healthy balance of challenging my students while also providing a nurturing environment for growth at their own pace. Many of my students have different goals; some want to learn for pleasure, others need preparation for an audition, or individuals want refresher sessions for upcoming performances or events. I typically perform an assessment with every individual during the first lesson. Depending on goals, I will recommend curriculum to achieve the desired results. If a classical approach is desired, I use the Alfred's Basic Piano series and the Hal Leonard method for guitar, along with scale and chord theory literature depending on the level of the student. I also teach jazz/pop accompaniment style improv playing so I print music out from various sources. Read More

I’ve held a studio of 35-40 students for the past decade and have had some of my students go onto pursue professional degrees in music at top conservatories around the country and perform for television and studio recordings. For beginning students who are children, I have a wide range of method books such as Alfred's Basic Piano, Bastien Piano basic Method and/or John Thompson's piano course. When my student started to understand the basics of the instrument, we begin to create their repertoire with the songs they are interested in and suitable for their level. For my adult students, I try to find out what they are interested in and guide my teaching accordingly to make lessons exciting and fun, regarding their skill level. Read More
