I keep this in mind when it comes to selecting songs and exercises to play and when I'm curating listening lists for students. I'm a violinist, singer-songwriter, and composer. I began playing violin at age 5 and graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2017. I've performed with Solange Knowles, Bootsy Collins, Panic! At the Disco, Slash, Jefferson Starship, and more. After, I will introduce the students to scales and arpeggios which will progress from one octave all the way to four octaves. Once students have grasped fundamental violin playing, i will introduce the student to different repertoire based on the students skill set and also desire. For older more advanced students, I will evaluate their current playing level and then teach according to their needs and goals whether it is playing for fun, auditioning for an orchestra, competitions, or etc. Read More

I prescribe relaxation and slow practicing with my ongoing advice, no matter what age or degree of technical expertise the student I am teaching possesses. Often times, I arrange a concert for students to play with piano accompaniment to get familiar with the harmony of the music, and to get used to playing in front of people, which is an essential part of their growth. First of all, I would ask the student if music would be his/her career or just a hobby. If it is to be his/her career, my approach would be more theoretical. But if it would be just a hobby like mine, I would encourage the student to learn by ear supplemented with a little theory to be able to learn a musical piece or song in the shortest time possible.
