I have been teaching private lessons for several years, as well as being on the faculty of a non-profit music school for 5 years after graduating from University. I've found that no matter what the setting, making a good connection with the student is crucial in building a strong teacher-student relationship. My lessons are a balance of building proper technique and enjoying fun music from my always-growing library. I have been insfluenced and surrounded with music since childhood. I have experience in multiple aspects of music from performance to teaching and just about everything in between. I love working with students to achieve their goals. The most rewarding feeling for me is when my student feels they've accomplished a technique or method on their respective instrument. I strongly believe in having an open and honest relationship with my student. I think both should know upfront what the expectations should be, such as how long they will practice, what proper progress and growth looks like, as well as what they need from me to help them succeed.   Musically speaking, I don't believe in boundaries - I don't think musicians need to be categorized or put into little boxes that tells them what they can and can't do. I think people should be allowed to explore whatever voices they find true and beautiful - and feel free to add their own voice. I believe we should learn from anything and everything, because music provided a window into another human's soul - and I believe each soul has value. Read More

I believe it is important to cater to each student's needs individually so I have many method books and options for teaching. If the student is being instructed through a school program I will happily use that book and the methods therein so that the student does not get confused. If there is no such outside instruction I choose to begin with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements supplemented by other method series' such as Suzuki and All For Strings. Read More
