Studying music and a specific instrument is not a straight line. There are multiple lines that cross and support each other's continuation. As mentioned previously, "Theory, Application and Technique" sums it up. We can't focus on everything all at once, so we have to prioritize what makes sense to emphasize now so that it will help us prioritize something else later. We set tangible goals when focusing on technique ("play A major scale in 8th notes at 120 bpm, for example), and can do this with music theory to an extent as well ("write out the notes of the B minor scale"). I have been teaching guitar and piano since high school. Throughout college I began to take on more students and teach group classes in guitar and jazz. I've had the opportunity to learn from some of the best music educators around. The study of musical pedagogy is a top priority for me. I'm a firm believer in the concept of students learning at their own pace. The last thing I want to do, is make you feel stress when playing/performing! Read More

My primary goal is to fill the student with the love of guitar and the passion to continue and grow. This is accomplished by continuing to challenge the student while keeping the process as interesting and fun as possible. I encourage the student to choose songs they want to work on rather than my dictating the music. This keeps it fun and interesting, and sometimes presents a challenge for me if their tastes are a little eclectic. Read More

My teaching method combines classical tradition with a personalized, goal-oriented approach. I emphasize proper technique, musical expression, and a clear understanding of theory and historical context. I use structured materials such as RCM and ABRSM syllabi for technique and repertoire, and integrate ear training, sight-reading, and interpretation into each lesson. I tailor my approach to each students strengths, challenges, and interests, ensuring balanced progress. Whether preparing for exams, auditions, or personal growth, students receive consistent feedback and motivation. Read More

Beginning students I will start with Hal Leonards beginning guitar and school of rock tablature so theyre learning both tab and notes. More advanced students will learn jazz out of multiple different books. We can start the lessons usually with warmups on scales, arpeggios and chords then for the rest of the lesson, focus on material. Developing your ear, or what is usually known as musicianship, is also something that I offer in addition to music theory. Read More

Practical Application: I believe in the importance of practical application. While theoretical concepts are crucial, I incorporate hands-on learning right from the beginning. Students learn by doing, which fosters a deeper understanding and connection with the material. Creativity and Exploration: Encouraging creativity is central to my teaching approach. I guide students to explore their musical ideas, experiment with different styles, and even compose their music. This not only sparks their imagination but also cultivates a sense of ownership and pride in their musical journey. Read More
