I love teaching the art of music. I get very excited when I see a student switch on to a new technique or idea that I've helped them realize. Most of my lessons have been for beginners who just wanted to get started to novice players who wanted to learn more. Guitar is a fun instrument with many applications and methods a player can use. I strive to bring those methods into my lessons so that my student gets the most out of their musical experience. Read More

It is important to pass on the education and experience I received. In my opinions, this is a duty of the artist. So I have always tried to share what has been given to me. I have had both formal and ad hoc students over the years. Although I've taught other subjects, such as theater and computer science, music is my metier, so it is the subject I am most fond of and love to teach the most. Read More

For beginning students who are children, be able to capture their excitement and build on top of that is very important. 90% of students gave up playing within the first year is because they felt...bored. My method get students quickly be able to play along with songs that they like or hear often in their daily life (ex. radio) then we break down the fundamentals behind the songs and gear the song toward a more classical approach to help students gain a comprehensive understanding, solid foundation and techniques. During my time teaching at Victor Litz Music, where I taught for 12 years, I was lucky to work with one student who had severe dyslexia. Though he had difficulty in a classroom setting, this students general reading and musical skills blossomed over the course of several years of instruction. Through patience and a customized approach I was able to reach him in ways that, according to his parents, no other teacher was able to do. Read More

I want to figure out what inspires a student. We will hone in on personal goals and use that as a basis for instruction. Motivation is key! I typically use a style of traditional classical instruction. Including scales, studies, and repertoire. I teach sight reading and ear training. I use memorization, and critical listening skills. I can teach from the beginning levels all the way up to concert playing. I can also teach other genres of music if the student desires. Read More

My teaching methods consist of interactive learning, like making sure the student is always the main focus not just listening but also hands on. So for beginners we would being by learning the basic and fundamentals of your instrument and theory while building up a repertoire of your favorite songs. For more advanced students we will dive in deeper into Harmony and Theory, Ear Training and Technique. No matter what level or age I like to give each student a couple of pieces so by the end of a couple of months they could perform them in front of their family. Read More

What does a normal practice session look like for you?
I have a schedule that I divide into specific sections.
I always warm up, like if it was a sport., you're using your muscles and tendons so I want to take care of that first. Then start pace by pace already on my instrument and from there it could be scales, arpeggios, chord tones, triads, chords, multiple chord voicings, substitutions, extensions, reading, ear trainning, theory, new songs, solos, licks etc. All lasting less than 30 minutes to focus totally on the topic and get the best out of each one of them,
If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
Guitar Performance Degree.
I chose that degree to have an in-depth knowledge of things I always watched online that my idols played or what I heard on the music I played on my Ipod.
Being an alumni from Musicians Institute has been something I am proud of. I learned a lot from so many teachers, not only guitarists but every musician there. They have different approaches and experiences either performing, learning and teaching. It gave me a wide spectrum of the industry and what being a musician is like.
I love what I do and can't see myself doing anything else. If I can help anybody with what I love, that's really rewarding.
What is your favorite style/genre of music to play and why?
I believe to know what you like you have to try everything, even what you don't like. I have certain styles more ingrained in me than others but I like al kinds of music.
My love for music started with the guitar virtuosos from the 80's. The music I love the most is metal, rock and of course blues!
I took jazz and funk lessons in college, it could get as complicated as you want it to be.
I've been all over the place, from listening to classical music to punk rock, to 80's rock and pop. No matter what it is if I like it I like it.
If you play more than one instrument, how did you decide to start playing the second? (Or 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc)!
I always wanted to play guitar and still can't picture myself doing anything else. My love and passion for music kept growing since I was a kid and to have a better grasp and understanding for music as a full band I started lessons for drums, bass, piano and even singing.
I have more than a basic knowledge fro them and can play couple songs. Taking those private lessons helped me to compose my own songs and start different projects.
I know the approach of every instrument is different but thinking different, takes music to another level.
