Typically I break my lessons into two parts; half dedicated to learning songs, and the other half dedicated to learning chords. For songs I'll start out with very basic melody songs (beginners), eventually working in power chords and tackling classic rock favorites, and finally incorporating chords/barre chords/soloing. The number one priority I have towards my students is to get them playing a lot of the time, and with proper technique. In the end, it is the student that "teaches" themselves through proper training and not the teacher. The teacher cannot give the student finger dexterity, strength or the ability to read and interpret music directly. I also will learn what their weaknesses and strengths are and push them to improve all around. I have a pretty laid back style of teaching.
