ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

BM, Classical guitar performance, Tel Aviv Music Academy (Tel Aviv University).

Music school and college in Russia

Master classes with some of the leading classical guitarists

Overview:
I am an experienced and patient instructor who loves to work with students of all ages and backgrounds and share my knowledge of music. I studied guitar in music schools in Russia and later at Tel Aviv Music Academy after out family move to Israel. I relocated to USA in 2003 and have been teaching in Orange County and Los Angeles area and perform all over Southern California. I was classically trained and specialize in classical, Spanish guitar and finger picking in general. I also teach other styles such as acoustic steel string and electric guitar for those who want a better foundation and technique.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching while in college in former USSR being a substitute teacher and assistant of my own guitar instructor. Later I began teaching on my own and continue doing so through my school years. So my total teaching experience spans for over 20 years now. I have had an opportunity to interact with a vast group of students who varied in their background, age ,educational level, abilities etc Teaching music is not just playing notes together, you have to create a teacher-student relationship. I have been teaching one of my students who is a world reknown neurologist for over 10 years. When it comes to school age children , parental involvement and support is pivotal. I encourage students to improvise, compose and I work with them towards music examinations if they wish to participate.
METHODS USED
I use various methods and books depending on the style, age, ability etc. I always keep my eye out for new books and open to suggestions. A few examples. With classical guitar students who are over 10 yo I prefer to use Christopher Parkening Guitar Method and Frederick Noad "Solo Guitar Playing" The latter suits more mature (both mentally and physically) students. With younger guitar students , 6-9 yo, I usually start by using basic guitar methods such as Hal Leonard Essential elements or "Everybody's Guitar Method" and my own easy arrangements of popular songs before shifting to Parkening. I also like to use RCM series of books for different levels as repertoire supplement and for RCM examinations. When I teach acoustic or electric guitar students I typically start with Hal Leonard Essential Elements to learn the basics and later we play by ear depending on student's interests and considering vast variety of songs and tabs available online.
LESSON STYLE
Very flexible, friendly, understanding and supportive teacher. I encourage my students to play duets with me and their friends (if applicable) and participate in recitals.I also try to teach them basic music theory unless they object, and help them to understand music, learn more about the history of music, and related matters. Some of my students take Royal Conservatory of Music tests regularly. I try to accommodate my students' interests and needs and always open to new things -say if they want to learn guitar accompaniment toa song they want to sing or solo/ accompaniment for a band.

When I was younger, I studied with some of the most prominent classical guitar teachers in the Los Angeles area. After a long hiatus from music, I resumed studying classical guitar with Timur and indeed have done so for some years now. He has helped me to become an improved player and made me more aware of musicality, guitar voices and rhythm. He teaches in a classical way and does not rely upon gimmicks that many less experienced, and probably less able, instructors sometimes favor. His vast knowledge of music in general enriches every session I have with him. In my opinion, he has much to offer the beginning, intermediate and advanced guitar student.

Timur is an amazing guitar instructor- he teaches my ten year old son. He is patient, professional, fun, passionate about guitar, and of course very knowledgeable. I would recommend him to any person wanting to learn guitar!!!!!
