I began my vocal studies in North Carolina State University with Elvira Green, who was one of the first black Sopranos at The Metropolitan Opera. I continued at Boyer College of Music under the tutelage of an internationally acclaimed jazz singer Joanna Pascale. After moving to Los Angeles, I began a mentorship with Tamara Beatty, who has been a vocal coach on The Voice for 10+ years. After college, I worked as a full-time talent manager in New York City and Los Angeles. Read More

My teaching style is focussed very much on what the student wishes to learn. Having a set guide pf progression is necessary but not when forced upon. My style involves exploring music together, understanding the thought process behind different pieces of music and applying concepts in fun innovative ways. I have also designed many musical games that are fun and help students remember things better. With every student I put together a custom lesson plan that is designed to show yardsticks and milestones for the student in how they are moving forward with their instrument. Read More

Teaching the most basic concepts in how to build a chord or a scale by using formulas is my favorite way to approach the lesson. An individual's understanding of music is always changing therefore I feel it is better to change with them. Using methods which are proven is important, but the idea of improvisation during a lesson always keeps the interest for me and the student. Of course this depends completely on the age and the experience of a student. Read More

For small children, I like to teach from the same book I first learned how to play guitar from. But, for older students, I like to base our lessons on their interests. Generally, I will ask a student if there is a song they really like. If so, we will learn the song by ear, or by sheet music for those interested, and break down all of its pieces. Then, once we understand the inner workings of the music, we will apply it to different situations. Read More

I like to create a very warm, encouraging, relaxed and positive atmosphere for all my students. My teaching style is very much student-led in terms of goals and preferences. While I will create a general plan for each student to reach their particular goals, I never see my lesson plans as these rigid constructs that must be stuck to closely, and a guitar lesson may shift gears right in the middle of the lesson if I feel a student needs to spend a bit of extra time on one skill or concept before moving on, or if I find the student has picked up something much more quickly than expected, and we can move on to the next thing, or if the student asks a question that leads us to dive a little deeper into one particular topic that wasn't necessarily on the plan. I'm a firm believer that things like "theory" will be appreciated over time and when students have come to actually realize its importance and significance once they have reached a certain skill level. Finally, It's also important for me to know my students music tastes and influences in order to carefully lay out a lesson plan in the hopes of getting them to where they want to be in the most efficient way. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
