I approach teaching with an empathetic, open mind. I truly want to get to know my students and their goals, so I can help them the best I can. I'm very patient and will push a student to do more but at their own pace. I help students use mindset and visualization tricks to unlock new potential. I'm very motivation oriented and encourage my students as best I can when things are more difficult. Read More

I love sharing my knowledge with others. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a student acheive their musical goals. I like to keep my lessons fun and interesting. I try to create a fun but realistic experience to ensure that my student's interest is maintained while progress is achieved. I also welcome feedback from my students to cater to each individual's style and abilities. This helps me be more reflective and aware of each student's process. Read More

As soon as I meet with a student or a group of students, I make sure they are welcomed by an energetic teacher before getting started on their lesson. I try to keep the student(s) engaged by showing them different ways and approaches to music from books and my own personal approaches to help them grow knowing their teacher is well experienced. Since their is a lot for a percussionist than just playing with sticks on a drum, there is no doubt that the endless possibilities in teaching students the various instruments will help keep them engaged as well being more excited about music. For younger, beginning students I start with the basic fundamentals of music while keeping it interesting with games or quick melodic exercises that can be easily grasped. Too much music theory can be overwhelming and boring to a new student so I focus on the fun side of music first. For the more experienced or older student, I typically craft the lessons based on their goals, while providing concrete ways in which they can achieve them with hard work and practice. Read More

If you are already an advanced player, then most likely you have very specific goals and areas you would like to improve upon. I will create specific exercises and plans to help you take your playing in new directions, and fill in any gaps in your knowledge of music and your instrument. Read More

My teaching methods can be defined by a few words patient, fun, and above all, flexible. I believe maintaining great flexibility is the greatest way of making sure a student is not only learning at a great pace, but enjoying their journey as well. As this is the case, I create individual custom lesson plans for every single student I teach. For example, with younger students, I will generally try to make sure they are engaged and having as much fun as possible learning the instrument, this could come in the form of focusing on (at first) popular riffs or songs that the student would know and enjoy learning. My approach to teaching guitar is roughly the same to students of all ages. I start with the very basics, assuming they know nothing about guitar. So I discuss the parts of the guitar and their functions. I teach how to tune in various ways. I like to use Hal Leonard's Guitar Method book 1, which covers what I have already described. By default the book guides the student through learning how to sight read, basic chords, proper posture, sight reading practice, etc. Read More
