Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I create custom lesson plans for each student based on their level, interests and goals. Typically I start brand new beginners with the basics, learning the parts of the instruments and the notes. Being a very visual learner myself, I enjoy using method books such as the Sassmannshaus series, as they are beautifully illustrated and help to capture and hold young children's attention. Melissa has maintained a full private teaching studio since 1999. She is currently on faculty at the Third Street Music School Settlement in NYC. She has been on the faculty of The European School of Music in Los Angeles, and acted as an visiting teaching artist in the LA Unified School District through a program funded by the Young Musicians' Foundation in Los Angeles. Melissa is also a member of the New York based Artemis Chamber Ensemble, plays regularly with numerous orchestras in the tri-state area, and has collaborated with the Flexible Orchestra for several commissioned world premieres.
