My teaching experience began at age 16, when a family friend asked if I would teach her daughter violin. I instantly found a love for the challenge of teaching, and the joy when a student experiences success. I have taught privately in a myriad of settings: music stores, music studios, and in students' homes. In high school, I was accepted into a music program that prepared me for entering college as a Music Education major. Read More

I cater the lessons towards the individual needs of the students. For beginning students 6 years old and under, I prefer to use Shirley Givens' books, "Adventures In Violinland", along with Suzuki materials through rote memorization. When the student is 5 or 6 years old or older, I like to use Suzuki materials but supplement with note reading right away. Also, I love it when a student brings a specific piece of music in that they would like to play, whether it is from the classical repertoire, or jazz, pop, etc. Read More

I don't have a singular method because every student is different. At the beginning of my lessons with a new student we will begin getting to know each other. Then we try different things. Some students are naturals at imitating what they hear, so we play to those strengths. Other students are more comfortable with structure and math, so we take that route instead. What I find most important is being flexible. Read More

Hello! My name is Julia and I'm an NYC-based actor/musician. I graduated in 2015 from Shenandoah Conservatory with a BFA in Acting. I'm also a proud National Theatre Institute and Moscow Art Theater alumna. In 2017, I completed my year and a half run with the Broadway National Tour of Once the Musical as the female swing, understudying: Girl (piano), Rza (violin) and Ex-Girlfriend (violin). Since then, I have toured nationally with The Rockin' Road to Dublin (Female Fiddler), Cirque Musica: Holiday Wishes (Flying Violinist) and Celtic Illusion (Canadian Tour) as the Fiddler. Read More

I am a classical violinist with a very deep passion for classical music. I did my Bachelor's from 2016 to 2020 in Music Performance at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey ad I am currently pursuing my Master's Degree in music, also at the Mason Gross School of the Arts. Performing is a very strong passion of mine and I am glad I had the opportunity to perform in Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center, as well as several music festivals such as the Killington Music Festival in Vermont, the Brevard Music Center in North Carolina, and the Summit International Music Festival in New York. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with introducing into base elements of music theory. From that point I try to determine the level of perception of music and coordination of movements with the instrument by the student. After determining the level of perception, I begin to develop an individual training program for each student. Thus, I select the optimal learning conditions and productivity of classes with my students, depending on their individual qualities. Read More

I'm well trained in the Suzuki repertoire and philosophies, however I teach a combination of traditional methods and also have the ability to exclude one or the other. For beginners and young children, I teach note reading simultaneously but separately from the applied side of playing. Holding the violin and bow, for example, are very challenging and require time to focus on them individually. Note reading is done on the side and later these aspects merge so that kids are eventually learning new pieces by reading the music directly. Read More
