I teach out of my home studio in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, as well as through Zoom to students worldwide. I have both a Master's and a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where I was concertmaster of the Conservatory Orchestra and the recipient of the full-ride Sergei Barsukov Violin Scholarship. I'm a dedicated piano, violin, and viola teacher and I enjoy teaching students of all ages! I went to Mannes College of Music and then played viola at the Spoleto Festival in Italy. In addition to teaching, I also play piano at major charities and fundraisers, including the Democratic Party Convention. After earning Bachelor Degrees from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory and the Peabody Conservatory (under the instruction of Qian Zhou and Keng-Yeun Tseng), Chieh-An entered the School of Music, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to continue his exploration of music repertoire and acquired a Master of Music degree under the tutelage of Wayne Lee. I believe that a judgement-free, cooperative lesson atmosphere is crucial to a student's success! Violinists and violists are often taught according to a traditional teaching method that is too rigid and outdated. In contrast, I design my lessons to fit each of my students' individual artistic goals, and encourage students to ask questions. I usually make a list of areas of focus for each lesson, and encourage my students to keep a practice journal. Read More

I enjoy teaching violin to students of all ages and seeing them progress from novices to advanced players.I develop a rapport with the students and their parents and tailor the lessons to match their goals. Several of my students have auditioned and been accepted by orchestras such as the Essex County Youth Symphony, the NJ Youth Symphony, the Westfield Youtn Orchestra and the  Montclair Gamer Orchestra. I am a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 1992, I graduated from Baruch (CUNY) with a degree in Applied Music. I have performed in Nashville and in New York City which has been one of my greater experiences as a musician, and I have had the opportunity to play at Jazz and Country Western clubs.
