I began studying cello, violin, and piano in Kiev, Ukraine and continued my music education when I moved to the USA. I received a Bachelor's degree in Cello Performance from Central Washington University and a Masters degree in Cello Performance from Rice University. Since graduating with my Masters in Cello Performance in 2005 from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, I have been consistently teaching. Most of my teaching for the past 13 years has been going to students' homes. I also encourage the students to participate in yearly recitals and local community engagements throughout the year. I believe that music is a universal creative outlet for expression no matter one's age, background, or level. In my 2nd year of Juilliard I began coaching freshman student string quartets. Many of these students had very little experience with chamber music. We practiced and discussed healthy group rehearsal habits, the several technical points such as intonation and bowings that are imperative to unify when playing with others, and of course, the expression of the music. I think I can learn just as much from my students as they can learn from me, so I want to make sure to show them as much respect as they give me, by allowing for a free flow of students ideas and interpretations. I do this by allowing students some input in choosing the music that they perform, as well as specific content they want to learn.
