For beginning students who are children, I typically start with a basic book like Fiddle Magic by Sally O'Reilly. Once the student has grasped the fundamentals, I will move on to the Suzuki Books. Along with teaching from the Suzuki Book, I will supplement their learning with an etude book such as Wohlfahrt and Kreutzer. I have extensive experience as a private teacher (25+ years). I teach cello, violin/viola, and piano and have taught students ages 5-65. I also have prepared students for specialized middle school and high school auditions, pre-college programs, and other auditions. In addition to private teaching, currently, I teach group string classes in Harmony Program NYC. Since I play the piano I'm often the accompanist for my students' recitals. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I am a performing violinist, however I am most passionate about teaching and also playing chamber music. I began my musical studies playing the piano at age 7 and the violin at age 9. As a youth, I served as concertmaster of the South Bay Youth Symphony, Azusa Pacific Symphony Orchestra and Texas Christian University Symphony Orchestra. With the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, I participated in two European tours and had the honor of performing at Cite de la Musique in Paris, the Dvorak Hall in Prague, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig and Amsterdam's Concertgebouw.
