Instruments: Voice
I have been teaching on and off for 30 years but especially the past 15. I was Head of Vocal Studies at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts from 2004-2009 and then at the Macau Polytechnic Institute. I also presented Masterclasses in China and around Asia. I have been teaching since returning to New York City and several of my students now have professional management to help them in their careers. Read More
Instruments: Drums
I stress to all my students exactly what a drummer's job is, that he/she needs to compliment the music and play within the framework of the song. The best thing that another musician can say about a drummer is that they have a great "groove" or great "feel". If I can get my students to that point then I'm happy. Read More
Instruments: Trombone Tuba
I provided students with lessons for 4 years during my undergraduate career in the San Antonio and Austin, Texas area. I was able to work with students from the ages of 7-30+. I make learning a fun experience and my focus on teaching is to make those who make music, enjoy what they do! Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice Music
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Bass Guitar Banjo Ukulele Electric Guitar Classical Guitar Acoustic Guitar
For beginners to the guitar, bass or banjo I usually start with the basic notes and chord shapes. When they progress and for more advanced students, I introduce reading tab, music, scales and basic chord progressions. For advanced students I generally work with modes, finer technique and advanced sightreading, chordal and modal melodies. To work in practice exercises I typically bury them in pieces the student enjoys to better get the hang of them. Read More

I am a passionate performer and educator based in Brooklyn, NY. I began teaching when I was in High School, and that led to a fourteen-year career in independent schools. I have taken students all over the world — Japan, Bolivia, Ireland, and Italy were some notable trips — to share their passion for music with like-minded and diverse audiences. I believe every student should be working towards a public performance, and I am committed to preparing students of all ages to share their music with the world. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
The best lesson I learned before attending college, my trumpet teacher taught me, "If you sound good while practicing, you're not really practicing", which I make sure to mention multiple times. I never try to overload my students with too much material, but instead try to understand what they would like to learn, and develop lessons and exercises from that. Brass instruments require commitment, and although difficult, playing should seem fun, instead of a chore. Read More
