Overview:
I have been on stage from the age of 3 and have spent my life learning more and more about music. I participated in a musical every year in high school and even won 1st and 2nd division awards at our Solo and Ensemble Festival. From there I went to a community college to gain some life experience. While there I was part of a paid show choir that acted as an ambassador for the college. After that I completed my music studies at Valley Forge Christian College (now the University of Valley Forge). I have been a private music teacher for 13 years and an elementary music teacher for 4 years. In that time I developed a skill set specifically designed to help students reach their goals. I also work in depth with students who have disabilities and specialize in adaptive music strategies. In may of 2025 I earned my master's degree in education from Oklahoma Christian University.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching lessons one on one for 13 years in voice, piano, and flute. I have also been an elementary school music teacher for the last 4 years. In my experience, I have worked with students from age 3 to age 70 with a variety of skill levels and disabilities. Over the years I developed a strategy to help each individual student reach their music goals and foster a love for music. I have also done extensive work with students who have disabilities one on one and in the classroom. This has allowed me to create adaptive music strategies that allow students to interact with music in a better and more meaningful way.
METHODS USED
My methods are pretty straight forward. I focus heavily on technique. A good foundation can help a student be their best in each genre. I personalize my lesson plans and drills to accommodate the student's strengths, weaknesses, and over all goal. I will push you to your limits so you can go even further than you thought you could. I also teach you how to be a healthy musician and steer students away from bad techniques that can cause damage or harm them in any way. Ultimately, the students get a say in what music they study. I also focus on meeting specialized goals for my students with disabilities. This could be something simple like like isolate a finger and play the piano, or something more difficult depending on the student's ability.
LESSON STYLE
I am no drill sergeant, but I wont lie to you either. I know when you've practiced and when you haven't. I encourage you and always be honest with you about your progress. I am on your side and want you to succeed. That being said, I have a fairly structured lesson. Starting with a breif warm up, we wilk touch upon a review of the previous lesson, technique drills, and then the music we are currently workung on. I do provide music to challenge and stretch the musicianship of my students, but I allow my students to work on whatever suits their interests.
