Music communicates what words cannot. My teaching philosophy is based on an open dialogue, creating a comfortable, fun, and curious learning environment. Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. -Victor Hugo. I teach practical violin lessons in cooperation with music appreciation and listening, music theory, and music history. Students will quickly apprehend the joy of expressing and speaking through the violin. Read More

I hold multiple studio classes and recitals per year for my students to gain invaluable performance experience and foster our sense of community. While I tailor each students curriculum to their individual goals and needs, here are some facets of my teaching that I employ with every student: - A fun, positive learning environment. - A thoughtful progression of exercises and repertoire for a strong technical foundation. - Development of musicality through phrasing, listening and singing. - Ear training and note-reading literacy. - Consistent practice habits, including a weekly practice log for younger learners. - Performance experience and on-stage training. I set different goals for each student. I realize that every student learns at a different pace and has special ways of comprehending the information. I want to push the student to work hard, but would never give them more than they can handle. I want my students to love music and look forward to practicing each day. I look for different ways to inspire them and motivate them to want to learn more. Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin Cello Viola
I've enjoyed teaching piano, violin and viola students, for the past seventeen years! And what I've generally found is, that it's not how long you practice, but how well. I feel that a student needs to be taught how to practice! I travel around Westchester NY and in addition to teaching the instrument, I encourage students to compose their own original pieces. I am a published composer and many of my music videos can be seen on You Tube. Read More

For my methods, I use a variety of books and create a diet of exercises and pieces that will build on fundamentals - from open strings, to scales and etudes like Schradieck, Kreutzer to pieces from the Suzuki Method as well as other options such as Nardini Concerto in b minor or Haydn Concerto in G Major. The method I use is scaffolding from the very small building blocks of technique and lead up to a mastery of each piece assigned. Read More

For beginners who are children, I start with the essential Suzuki method which includes a focus on musical listening imitation, parental involvement (at very young ages) and creating an effortless technique. The Suzuki books are great in that they provide a great foundation and an extremely logical progression for taking students from complete beginners to an advanced level. For advanced students, we can branch out into a wide variety of classical concertos or other repertoire (this happens around Suzuki book 6) I love to teach adults, and I try to structure my teaching in accordance with adult students' goals and interests.
