For younger students, especially children, I will begin their first vocal lesson by standing next to them and showing them how to stand with correct posture. Then I will move on to breathing by having the child place their hand on their diaphragm. I will show them that it is the muscle right above their stomach. I have been teaching voice lessons for almost ten years to students of all ages, skill levels, and preferred genres. Many of my students have been successful on stage, in auditions, competitions, and in gaining acceptance into music schools across the country. My focus is to guide my student in finding their own voice in a healthy way. Every student has a different goal in taking voice lessons. Proper technique, learning the notes, and learning how to practice effectively is a great place to start. Even ten minutes a day is better than not practicing. Making lessons fun and giving students tools to bring home is very important to me.
